Crock Rock: Live Lady Meat Fuck’s vegan chocolate cake and curried bacon
August 7, 2012 § Leave a comment
Last night, Crock Rock (a cooking show on KBGA produced by Mr. Duane Raider) featured Live Lady Meat Fuck’s recipes for vegan chocolate cake and, to balance it out, curried bacon. They both sounded marvelous. Click here to download the episode, and let me know if I screwed up the recipe transcription.
Here they are:
Mariah’s Vegan Chocolate Cake
Ganache (make a few hours or night before)
14 oz vegan chocolate, block or chips
32 oz high fat coconut milk
2 tblsp agave syrup
optional: ounce or two of whiskey
Bring coconut milk, agave syrup and choc. chips to a boil in double-boiler, keep simmering for about an hour. Let chill for a few hours until it’s a “frosting” consistency.
3 cups flour
1 cup vegan sugar (beet sugar is, cane sugar is not)
2 teasp salt
2 tsp soda
4 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 cup water
2 tbls vinegar
1 c. molasses or agave
1/3 c. vegetable oil
optional: cup of chopped nuts or shredded coconut
Sift or whisk dry ingredients together. Blend liquid ingredients. Pour half dry ingredients into wet, mix thoroughly, then pour in other half, and mix thoroughly. It’s harder to overmix vegan cake than regular cake. Then, add chopped nuts or coconut.
Optional step: Let Duane Raider dip his dirty fingers in.
Bake about 30 minutes at 325 degrees, turn, and bake another 10 minutes until the middle remains soft but outside edges are raised. Spin it and bake another 10 minutes, until the top springs back when touched and an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Wait until it’s cool, then frost with the ganache.
Humpy’s Curried Bacon
1 lb bacon ends and pieces (cheapier, meatier, greasier)
Several dashes hot madras curry powder
Several dashes black pepper
Toss bacon into pan. As it cooks, throw on black pepper and hot madras curry powder. When bacon is desired crunchiness, drain grease on paper towels and enjoy. On top of the chocolate cake, if you so desire.
