Wet Nurse!

Wet Nurse! they appear to be… moist.

It is shaping up to be quite the week, what with Montgomery Distillery releasing its rye whiskey (I was in line at 10 a.m., for work purposes, of course) and Red Fang tomorrow at the Palace. That show is nearly sold out, according to Mr. Vanek:

By the way, if you are one of those people who messages Total Fest on Facebook asking if a show is sold out, please go die in a fire.

I am looking at my Red Fang ticket which is pinned next to my desktop, and barring a sudden newsroom fire, I am not worried about getting into the show. (Oh God, I’ve totally summoned a newsroom fire now, haven’t I?)

Other exciting things: Wet Nurse is a kick-ass band from Florida and they play the VFW on Saturday. Let’s go to them.

I dunno which I find sexier right now: a bunch of cute Ohio dudes, or the concept of snow.

Next Thursday, Signals Midwest and Timeshares play the VFW, and they are also excellent rock/punk bands from outta town. Signals Midwest kind of hits the same spot for me as Joyce Manor/Close Talker/Smith Street Band. I’ll probably check out Timeshares at some point here soon, too.

Also, somebody must’ve spit in Steve Albini’s bean curd.

hello. your faithful editor has been knocked flat with a cold, and so I have no shenanigans to report. I am told that Burn Burn Burn played the VFW on Saturday but Ed Schrader did not make an appearance because they’re actually scheduled to play in a month or so, and somebody misread a calendar and put them on the flyer for last week. so! more good shows to come, then, eh?

in lieu of proper content, here’s Songs From a Bon Iver Album In Which Everybody Is Emotionally Stable and Living in the Suburbs, and a reminder the Bon Iver Erotic Stories is still one of the best things to happen on the Internet.

Extremely Boston Man Can’t Comprehend A Sunfish. Dear God, may we all approach life with the sheer amazement that this man has for a kind of fish that he has never seen before.

I mean, it’ll be worth it just to see the weird mutual-appreciation hump-fest between Buddy Jackson and Burn Burn Burn. silly boyz.

some notes:

FIDLAR’s new album is amazeballs, I’ve listened to it twelve times since I downloaded it last week, you should do the same.

Lucero’s new record is streaming over at Paste.

Every Song on “Short Music for Short People,” Ranked: truly doing God’s work. except that I fondly remember this Fat Wreck comp and disagree with half of his list.

I would like Miss Montana’s shoes plz. Lol at Miss Idaho for just spraypainting a potato gold and gluing it to a heel.

(Also I found tutorials online to make dinosaur shoes. Alls I need is a welder, steel bolts, and something called a rotary tool. On second thought, these C3PO and R2D2 painted heels are a little more do-able.)

Today, for work-related purposes, I learned that atomic wedgies can be lethal.

(I promise I didn’t spend *all* of today looking at weird nerdy shoes online.)

assorted shows ‘n stuff are happening this week, but I would like to draw your attention to the extremely nifty Missoula Monster Project art show at the ZACC, wherein grownups make pieces based off kids’ monster drawings.

Screen Shot 2015-09-10 at 3.33.45 PMThe reception is tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 11, from 3:30-8:30 PM. Proceeds from sales help fund field trips for kids to the art center. Good stuff all around.
